Review: Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines

Rating: 3/5

This story follows Maggie Carleton and West Ashby. Maggie is mute by choice after witnessing her father murder her mother two years before the story begins. Maggie moves in with her Aunt, Uncle and football playing Cousin and beings a new school at the beginning of the book. Her cousin is best friends with West. West is a typical Abbi Glines male lead: cocky, popular, and insanely good looking, but he is battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.

The characters followed Abi Glines formula: Take one sweet, innocent angel with a troubled past and a bad boy hero who mistreats girls with some problems of his own. They are both of course wanted by everyone in the school. All the girls (who are portrayed as sluts and awful people to only make the heroine seem more innocent) want to be with West. All the guys of course want innocent Maggie. The story wasn't anything unique but was entertaining none the less - although I felt that the relationship dynamic between the characters was superficial and arguments seemed to only be there to move the plot forward.

All in all, this was an ok contemporary read, scarily readable and perfect novel to get you out of a reading slump because it is so darn short. I listened to this as an audiobook, and it was less than 6 hours long.  If you are an Abbi Glines fan I’m sure you will love this.

This is the first book in The Field Party series. The next book Under the Lights follows the story of Brady (Maggie’s cousin) and is released August 23rd 2015
